The Zero Carbon Oxfordshire Partnership (ZCOP) is dedicated to supporting the county’s journey toward net-zero emissions. While many businesses are owned and occupied by a single entity, a significant portion of commercial properties in Oxfordshire are leased. For both property owners and tenants, lease agreements can sometimes present barriers to implementing energy efficiency and carbon reduction measures.
Many businesses are eager to take action on net-zero initiatives, such as upgrading lighting to LED, installing rooftop solar panels, and adding electric vehicle chargers. However, these improvements can be challenging to implement in leased spaces due to the constraints of traditional lease agreements.
To address these challenges, ZCOP is hosting a face-to-face Property Owner & Tenant Net Zero Workshop that will explore how lease agreements can be restructured to support energy efficiency and carbon reduction improvements for both owners and tenants. The event will feature talks and discussions from both owners and tenants, focusing on the barriers and practical solutions that can accelerate the adoption of energy-saving, carbon-reducing measures that also enhance workplace environments.
Event Highlights:
The event will provide an overview of available solutions and best practice examples that offer mutual benefits for both landlords and tenants. The Better Buildings Partnership will present their Green Leases Toolkit, which addresses common barriers to energy efficiency improvements in leased properties. You can explore the toolkit here.
Additional speakers will share insights on the business case for net-zero action in commercial properties, focusing on key drivers and incentives, including those highlighted in the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) report on retrofitting office buildings. You can access the full UKGBC report here.
The event will also include networking opportunities and a chance for knowledge exchange with others working towards similar goals.
